I was brought
up on food!
I loved cooking when I was young,
always hassling my mum to help in the kitchen and lick the cake bowls. My mum
made a pudding every night and in the 70’s she experimented with exiting new
foods like curry and pizza and soufflé!
We were living the 70’s dream.
My granny was also a great cook
and there I am proudly standing next to her party-food table. She also had a
soda syphon, which was beyond joy!
I have never really liked eating
meat, well apart from sausages. So I’ve grown up mostly eating and cooking
vegetarian food.
I’ve worked on and off in the
catering business since I was 17.
I have cooked and served and managed. and I’ve sold a lot of Belgium chocolates, salads and
olives. For a while I even had my
own little place - The Fat Olive Cafe in Lancaster.
In between all this I have
attempted to be an artist. Studying dressmaking, theatre design, and
ceramics.
When my son was born I taught my
self, illustration and digital design. You can see some of my arty life (if you’re
interested) @Strange Bird Designs.
So now I’m
back with food because I love it!
I started this blog a year ago to
aid my job prospects,. It helped me go from a boring job washing up in a dull
restaurant - to a food development chef for a very groovy cafe in Manchester!
I now have a very nice part time
job at Roots veggie cafe in Lancaster where I make all the cakes, including
lots of very delicious vegan and gluten free ones.
